a little song for your saturday

This basenji is a regular diva. She really puts her soul into her "singing."
Don't believe me? Just wait for the music to crescendo...

Oh my goodness, Leslie. That's amazing, although I can't help thinking there might be something about the piano that hurts the dog's ears. Then again, maybe basenjis howl for different reasons than other dogs.
I've never met a Basjenji in person, but I wanted one when I was young because I'd read a wonderful book called "Goodbye, My Lady" -- just the thought of it now brings tears to my eyes. It was first published in 1954, and I must have read it shortly after that. Then it was reprinted in paperback in 1978. It's probably available on eBooks by now!!

poor doggy ... maybe music isn't her thing

Actually, if she's anything like my basenji, she really enjoys her "performances." They are quite dramatic when they do their singing...

Basenjis can't bark, and the sounds this dog is making are quite typical of a basenji "singing and talking." It may sound unusual to ears that are accustomed to the usual doggy sounds, but it's quite normal for a basenji.

Our male basenji used to "sing" like this even without music, just for the fun of it, or to impress his listeners. He was very proud of his "voice."

I laughed through most of the rest of it, once she began to howl. She looked so nonchalant and then her nose went straight up in the air for the howl, only to return to nonchalance at the end! Funny and cute. What a hoot!
I miss having a dog--we will get one when we finally find our new home.
Loved this, Les.

What an artist; I was moved to tears by her soulful delivery and that dramatic entry and pause as she scanned the room for her audience. Nothing short of brilliant.

Fun! Have you posted it on FB?
I think she enjoys her diva status.

Leslie is this YOUR dog??? Wow what a voice!!!!!

Now my dog Ellie (standard poodle) is a dancer...she loves klezmer music and jazz and dances all over the living room when my husband plays our piano...she's a dancing diva, I guess you could say!

Laura - No, she isn't my dog. I had a male basenji who used to sing like this, sans music. My current female basenji is very quiet. She never sings, but she does dance! I don't think she's quite up to your Ellie's standards, though : )

Beth - I knew you'd laugh...

Jodi - I think she really DID scan that room for her audience. She has another video on Youtube where she sings to the theme from the Godfather. What I can't figure out is how they get her to stay right in front of the camera. She looks like she does it on her own.

Melanie - I think her owner "accompanies" her on piano. Maybe they explain more on the info at her Youtube videos.

Noelle - Yes, I think she would have been a hit with the pharoahs. Top ten on the charts, for sure...
