light on the water

the pond is mysterious,
shallow depths
swirling
with silver-scaled sunlight,
swimming
towards shore

the pond is black velvet,
sleeked with
diamond-studded water weeds,
draped in filmy
virescence

the pond is
a night sky,
starry constellations
stretching to infinity amid
the swirling nebulae

Sounds like a lovely pond you bring to us through your eyes. Can really just drink it in - very visually appealing imagery you paint for us, with succinct yet creative descriptions; a fine bit of word choice and a tribute to nature's beauty.

I love the picture. The specks of light on the pond is so beautiful. Great poem to match.

Incredible shot. It's so beautiful when the firmament is flickering on water.

So delightfully between the firmaments of water and air, somehow both. Exactly what a poem should nail.

I liked the rhythm of the last stanza especially. Like the lapping of a pond, the ripples that extend outward. :)

I love this! My favorite line is "swirling/with silver-scaled sunlight." And I never get tired of staring at that night-sky-in-water.

Loved those sparkles when I enlarged this Leslie - just beautiful ! As are the words of this poem - I especially liked the last part:

"... a night sky,
starry constellations
stretching to infinity amid
the swirling nebulae"

Incredibly strong imagery, leslie!
You used 'power words' as I call them when trying to get my students to be more creative in their descriptions.
Simply loved this.
