benediction

there came a moment when
the light became more than light
or my eyes became more than eyes
and i saw around me
everything, lit from within
and the light danced
about me
like a grace note,
like a benediction —
on my skin,
on the worn bricks,
on the pine carpet
where the little white-bellied
squirrel sat, watching,
yet unafraid.

Isn't it wonderful how in this life, in this world, every thing is more than it is? That is truly grace.

This is a wonderful poem!
"Like a grace note." I love that!

That is so beautiful. It does, indeed, sound like a benediction.

Holy cow, did you write that? Put your name on it if you did, so I can print it off, show it to people and say, "My friend Leslie wrote this!" Love it.

Leslie, I feel like your poetry is pulling up what's inside and what's inside is intense and painful and beautiful, too.

Thank you for sharing it with us --

Lovely poem, Leslie. And may we be like that squirrel - unafraid.

Did you write that? It's beautiful. I've had very very rare moments like that but would never be able to express it so beautifully. I would like to print this off and keep it somewhere special. You must put your name on it.

Beautifully written Leslie. the expression of a "grace note, like a benediction—on [your] skin..." what better manifestation of the grace of God than to be touched "like a benediction..." I love this, so well written!

Sweet little moment. I almost think this sort of reads better backwards, starting with the images and moving to the inner light. Maybe not. Just a thought!

I dig the epiphany punctuated by the little squirrel dude. I wonder what he was thinking. :D

Yes, you do know, don't you, Leslie? You have glimpsed that side. The gift.

Your gift of words to me this morning was so very much appreciated. Like grace notes.

In answer to all who wondered if I wrote this - yes I did. All poetry on the blog is mine, unless I credit another author.

Thanks so much for all your encouraging words, I am overwhelmed by your gracious support...
