e.e. cummings, "i thank You God for most this amazing"

i thank You God for most this amazing
day:for the leaping greenly spirits of trees
and a blue true dream of sky;and for everything
which is natural which is infinite which is yes

(i who have died am alive again today,
and this is the sun's birthday;this is the birth
day of life and of love and wings;and of the gay
great happening illimitably earth)

how should tasting touching hearing seeing
breathing—lifted from the no
of all nothing—human merely being
doubt unimaginable You?

(now the ears of my ears awake and
now the eyes of my eyes are opened)

— e.e. cummings, from "XAIPE"

This is the second ee cummings quote I've seen posted today. Both have blessed and encouraged me deeply. Thanks for this.

the last two lines remind me of something Jesus said about having ears to hear and eyes to see ...

Absolutely love e.e.cummings! I had forgotten this poem and so glad that you posted it. It helps remind us to be grateful for everything we are given.

So much rich green in your photo, Leslie, with tiny specks of brilliant blue. I enlarged it so I could get a better look.
Isn't it interesting how cummings chose to capitalize the words referring to God, but referred to himself with a lowercase "i"? Significant.
