flower madness

People from a planet without flowers would think we must be mad with joy the whole time to have such things about us.  — Iris Murdoch

feeling a bit chewed up and scattered lately

feathers ruffled...

sometimes i'd like to crawl into a hole

and throw sand over the top

i think i need to spend some time here...

he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul.
psalm 23: 2-3

i just want to say

there is hope.
even when the soul-light burns low,
a flame barely lit
and the wick a mere smoulder
a breath of wind
would snuff forever —
there is hope.

moon spots

my camera and i have cross words when i'm attempting night shots.

i keep offering it different settings, manual and otherwise, but the results are nearly always fuzzy...

i think my scolding helped a little, this time, though, because the camera gave me these lovely turquoise "moon spots" to make up for its lack of focus...

and then there was light...

the light of morning
fills me with hope, casting off
shadows of the night.

scenes from the hood on a sunday afternoon

a lot of perspiring went into this post... but that's july in florida for you.

since my walk began with a sign reminding me to "stop" and look about me,
i thought i should do just that.

july is also the harbinger of fabulous skies, and pink apple snail eggs...

...and mushroom fairy rings waiting to trap the unwary traveler.

all in all, not a bad exchange for a month-long sauna...

i love it when nature paints for me...

squirrel carnage

I've been waking up every morning to this.
It looks like a madman with a wood chipper has been let loose in my yard.

Who, me?

Yes, you
You of the razor sharp incisors,
capable of turning one of these tightly closed pine cones into pine mulch,
in a mere 15 minutes or less.

Note the progression here...

and the final result.

Can you believe this is the same pine cone I showed you in the first photo?
And here's the real kicker: the squirrels do this, over and over again, just to find and eat two pine nuts. TWO! Each seed smaller than a lentil.

That's what I call perseverance.

And now it's time for a nap.

independence day

Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.

some things i did today...

painted my nails lavender and read a book while they dried...

listened to thunder in the distance...

breathed in the fragrance of apricot-pĂȘche body lotion.

(i did some actual work, too... honest!)
