a lament.

i have this pain in my gut
and lately it almost never
goes away
and it makes me afraid
of life and death,
both —
and i've been here before
but
i never get used to the darkness
and he says he will
go before me
and be with me,
God does,
but sometimes it doesn't feel
like that
so i tell him.
he felt like that too,
once.

"my God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"

I love the quote by Mary Oliver about uses of sorrow. Would you mind if I borrow it for a posting about a friend who recently passed? I have not ever read this quote before and it really hits home. I will, of course, give you credit if you agree. Thanks for considering.

Teri, I'm so sorry you lost your friend, and you don't need to credit this blog in any way if you wish to use Mary Oliver's poem, "The Uses of Sorrow." She is the only one who should get credit for her words.

<3 you my friend. I admire your strength. You may not feel strong but you are. It takes faith to lament. It does. With you as always in prayer.

I trust that He will hear your lament and send the healing only He can provide.

I was reminded of this song - maybe you're familiar with it.

As I read your words of pain I knew what was to follow before I got to the words. I think we all feel forsaken at times, but we aren't really, I think all of us have an in-built strong power equal to adversity that keeps us going along with our connection to the Source of life.

Your strength is a source of inspiration.

So sorry you're in pain. I hope you'll feel well soon, both physically and spiritually. At times like these, feeling forsaken and frightened is normal. Take care.

I am so sorry you feel forsaken by your Savior. :( When we are in pain it's hard to remember that our feelings are not always trustworthy.

Thank goodness we know the truth. God's Word is infallable and when we are in pain we need to remember to rest in the promises found in the Bible.

Hebrews 13:5b "God has said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you."

Love and prayers to you today.

Oh my gosh. I feel this way too. It brings us to the basics in our lives, to the knowledge where we stare straight in the face of our ticking clocks, which others deny. We are here for only but a brief moment, like a whisper or single note to a song. But we are still part of a great harmony...just saying, lest we forget. HUGS
